Mental Health First Aid Training
What: Mental Heath First Aid Training
When: Saturday, 4th August, 2018
Time: 8am-12pm or 1pm-5pm
This year QPSA will be hosting our very first Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training. For anyone who currently works in a community or hospital pharmacy, you would understand just how common it is to see anti-depressants, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, etc. dispensed. Pharmacy does an excellent job at teaching us how these medications work and what the side effects are, but to actually speak to patients about how they're going on their medications is another story.
The mental health first aid course is the perfect stepping stone to allow you start those conversations and give you tips on how to respond to those difficult responses. Patients with mental health issues will probably see their pharmacists more than they see their doctors. So, don't miss out on this amazing opportunity to potentially make a difference in the lives of your patients.
Even if you're not working in a pharmacy, come along and learn as much as you can! These will be skills you can apply in areas, beyond your future career and a great addition to your resume!
The training will have two sessions times available (8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm), in which you only have to attend one. Prior to your selected four-hour face-to-face training, there will be an online component. This can easily be completed over your semester break. Lastly, after the face-to-face training, there will be one final online quiz (very simple and short). Once these are completed, you will receive your MHFA certificate, which will be valid for three years. The cost of the entire program will be $160 and will be held at either St Lucia or PACE (will be confirmed closer to the date)
